Biosketch: Lizette Villarreal is responsible for the daily operation and management of the South Texas Poison Center as Assistant Director. Lizette holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Child Psychology from the University of the Incarnate Word, and a Master of Arts in Counseling from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Ms. Villarreal is currently working on her dissertation for her Doctorate of Philosophy in Applied Demography at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
As a member of the Department of Surgery faculty, her research areas of expertise include Hispanic unintentional injury, social and economic health disparities in minority communities, program evaluation, and health survey research. Lizette's previous research work has focused on the development and evaluation of school-based prevention programs in the areas of underage drinking and impaired driving, child passenger safety, safety belt use, injury prevention, and traffic safety. Mrs. Villarreal's research has been published in national peer reviewed journals, and her work is continuously highlighted at professional conferences around the nation.
