Biosketch
Wayne H. Schwesinger, MD, is a native of Tacoma, Washington and a
graduate of the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle.
After a tour of duty in the United States Air Force he completed his
training in general surgery and gastroenterology at the University of
North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He is currently a Professor of Surgery
and the director of surgical endoscopy. He is a member of 17
professional organizations. His clinical and research include biliary
and diverticular disease and the surgical management of obesity. Over the past
decade, Dr. Schwesinger has repeatedly been chosen as the surgeon other
physicians would choose for themselves as well as for their own families.

Biosketch
Dr. Sirinek received his medical degree and Physiology from Ohio State
University and completed his general surgery residency at Ohio State
University College of Medicine. His research interests are
physiologic response to laparoscopic surgery; long-tern survival
following portacaval shunt; physiology and medical/surgical treatment of
delayed gastric emptying.

Dr. Raul Ramos is a nationally and internationally recognized physician
dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the colon and rectum.Dr.
Ramos has been a member of the University of Texas Health Science Center
clinical faculty for more than 20 years and has presented educational seminars
at conferences around the world. Additionally, surgeons from all over the world
come to work in conjunction with Dr. Ramos in learning the most advanced
surgical techniques and procedures. Along with patient care and teaching, Dr.
Ramos actively participates in civic and educational activities throughout the
United States and Mexico.
Stephen M. Cohn, MD, Professor

Dr. Cohn received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine and
completed his residency training at Baylor and Boston University, where
he then completed a critical care fellowship in 1987. He joined the
faculty at Yale University in 1990 where he served as Chief of Trauma
and Surgical Critical Care. In 1997 he arrived at the University of
Miami to become Chief, Division of Trauma and Surgical Critical Care.
While in Miami he also held the offices of Medical Director of the Ryder
Trauma Center and Co-Director, US Army Trauma Training Center. Dr. Cohn holds
the Witten B. Russ
Chair.

Dr. Van Sickle received his medical degree from the University of Tennessee in
1994 and completed his surgical residency training at Georgia Baptist Medical
Center in Atlanta, GA and New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC.
He went into private practice in general surgery for four years in Anderson, SC
before returning to academics in 2003 to complete a two-year fellowship in
Advanced Laparoscopy and GI Surgery at Emory University Hospital. Dr. Van Sickle
joined the faculty at UTHSCSA in Sept. 2005 and is an Associate Professor of
Surgery in the Division of General and Laparoendoscopic Surgery and Director of the
Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) Fellowship. Dr. Van Sickle has consistently been selected as one of San Antonio's
best surgeons by his peers and by
his patients.
Patrick Nguyen, MD, Assistant Professor, General and Laparoendoscopic

Dr. Nguyen graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a BA in Microbiology in 2000. He
completed medical school in San Antonio in 2004 and his five years of General Surgery Training in San Antonio in
June 2009. Dr. Nguyen was awarded numerous teaching awards during his training and joined the faculty upon
completion of training. As an Assistant Professor in Surgery he has led the expansion of the General Surgery
Service at UT Medicine Westover Hills. He is also the Co-Director of the Surgery Clerkship for the School of
Medicine and is currently serving a 2-year term as the Chief of Surgical Services at the Christus Santa Rosa
Westover Hills Hospital. Dr. Nguyen is fluent in French, Vietnamese, and some Spanish.

Dr. Richard Peterson obtained his Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in biology from the
University of California, Riverside. He then went on to obtain a Masters in Public
Health (MPH) at the East Stroudsburg University in East Stroudsburg, PA. He
obtained his MD degree from the American University of the Caribbean. He
completed his General Surgery residency at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, MD. He
then went on to pursue a fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgery
at the University of Southern California with world-renowned laparoscopic surgeon
Dr. Namir Katkhouda. This training has made him one of a select few surgeons who
perform a completely hand-sewn laparoscopic gastric bypass.
Following the completion of his training he entered into Active Duty service with the United States Air Force. He served two combat tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. During his time in the Air Force, Dr. Peterson served as Chief of Bariatric and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery at Wilford Hall Medical Center. He expanded the program to be the largest bariatric surgery program in the Department of Defense. He also served as the Consultant to the Air Force Surgeon General on Bariatrics during this time. Dr. Peterson was recently selected by his fellow physicians as one of San Antonio's Best Doctors.
Dr. Peterson is fluent in Spanish, enjoys running and resides in San Antonio with his wife and two children.

Dr. Logue attended undergraduate at Auburn University where she earned a B.S. in
Chemistry. She attended The University of South Alabama for medical school and
then completed residency in general surgery at The University of Tennessee in
Memphis. Dr. Logue finished a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery at The
University of Texas in San Antonio and transitioned to faculty within the
division of General and Laparoendoscopic Surgery.
Dr. Logue currently is an assistant professor and was appointed to associate program director at the University. She has a joint appointment at the Audie L. Murphy Veteran's Hospital where she serves as the Chief of General Surgical Services. Her clinical interests include laparoscopic colon, biliary, foregut, and hernia surgery as well as diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy. She also enjoys resident education and assisting them in exam preparation.

Dr. Bohnenblust attended Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana where she earned a B.S. in
Biochemistry. She then attended the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio
for medical school and general surgery residency. She is currently obtaining her Master's in
Public Health Degree at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston School of
Public Health. Her clinical interests include colon, biliary, abdominal wall reconstruction, and
hernia surgery as well as endoscopy. Her research interests include adipocyte stem cells,
abdominal wall reconstruction, plastic and reconstructive surgery and access to surgical care.
